This log lists all relevant changes in the individual releases of CAD6industrie, CAD6studio, and CAD6starter. Some of those do not apply to all editions.
Release 2025.0.4.15 (April 15, 2025)
• | When outputting to PDF (using DirectPDF or CAD6PDF), bitmaps with an alpha channel are now checked to see if the alpha channel is actually being used. Only if it isn't, the much better compressing JPG format can be used. This can sometimes make the resulting PDF files dramatically smaller. |
• | The program could crash when opening libraries newly added to the library list. |
• | When opening the font list, the program could crash or display nonsensical data in the window. |
• | If many objects were moved together on the screen while switching between different programs at the same time, the program could crash in rare cases. |
• | The display of simple lines with a block line pattern within a mapping differed from the subsequent printout (which was correct). |
• | When opening drawings with block hatches in objects that were hidden at the time (e.g. objects in model space when a page was initially displayed), their recalculation failed and an error message appeared. |
• | Immediately after saving a drawing, groups could sometimes have an invalid bounding box and therefore no longer be visible or clickable. After reloading the drawing, everything worked again. |
• | When using the Area Mode »Jutting Into«, markings, comments, and hyperlinks could not be selected. The same applied to unresolved references to blocks, bitmaps, or drawing references. |
• | If many objects were moved together on the screen while snapping of intersection points with snap preview was active, artifacts could temporarily become visible on the screen. |
• | The display and output of construction aid beams was partially incorrect or completely missing. |
• | A color-filled or contoured output area was missing from the PDF output. When generating the preview upon saving, that area's opacity was always set to 100%. |
• | The preview for hatching types could take a very long time for block hatches with a scaling factor significantly less than 1. |
Release 2025.0.4.2 (April 2, 2025)
• | When opening drawings containing embedded bitmaps, it could happen that some of them were loaded from the file but then deleted from memory. They were therefore no longer saved the next time the file was saved and were lost. |
• | When resolving using Trim Objects > Resolve Completely, all properties of the newly created sub-objects were accidentally fixed, meaning that changes to the pen and layer no longer had a direct effect. |
• | When using DirectPDF with layers, some layers were output that did not contain any objects. Additionally, the layers are now displayed alphabetically. |
• | The option "Also export objects in non-printed layers" (for DirectPDF and CAD6PDF) did not work correctly for drawings in layout mode with mappings. |
• | If DirectPDF was used with the "One job per sheet" option and multiple bitmaps on different pages, those bitmaps could be mixed up or missing. |
• | Underlining and strikeout are now supported when outputting outlined or resolved text. Accordingly, the corresponding warnings no longer appear. |
• | When scaling tables as a whole, text sizes and margins were not adjusted correctly. The height and width of empty cells were accidentally always calculated using a default font size of 5 mm. Highlighting the selected cell / column / row while editing did not work correctly. |
• | When scaling extended labels (such as Surface Finish ISO 1302) as a whole, the text size was not adjusted correctly. |
• | If properties of objects within external blocks were changed directly, the dialog sometimes incorrectly offered elements such as pen and layer from the drawing instead of from the respective library. If a pen or layer was selected from the library, this assignment often only worked after reinitializing the library, for example, by saving and reopening. |
• | When editing buttons in the Block Window, the most recent change is now saved and used as a default for new buttons. |
• | When printing using "All Objects", some objects in groups or blocks were used to calculate the surrounding frame, even though they were not output at all. |
Release 2025.0.3.18 (March 18, 2025)
• | When creating PDF files with DirectPDF, you can now choose between two levels of accuracy to create either particularly accurate or particularly small files (sometimes only half as big). The computing time for the output has been reduced by up to 1/3. |
• | Outputting hyperlinks to a PDF file did not work. |
• | If the "One job per sheet" option was used with DirectPDF, the program could crash. |
• | Moving buttons in the Command Bar sometimes didn't work as expected. The context editing menu has also been improved. |
• | Canceling a lengthy PDF output (with DirectPDF or CAD6PDF) did not work as spontaneously as intended. |
Release 2025.0.3.11 (March 11, 2025)
• | The output of line patterns did not work when "Optimize line patterns" was active. |
• | Dashed line patterns were sometimes displayed as solid lines if an object with a degenerate (e.g. extremely short) line pattern was displayed before it in the display order. |
• | If a scaling factor was specified for the model space in a drawing in classic mode, this factor was inadvertently applied to the PDF output. |
• | When inserting bitmaps (from files or the clipboard), the set "Alignment when Placing" was not correctly respected. |
• | When reading drawing files older than Release 2024.0, some printer settings were not adopted correctly. |
• | The installation failed with an error on Windows 8.1 (64-bit). The current CAD6 can now run there, but has only been tested on Windows 10 and Windows 11. We recommend using Windows 11! |
Release 2025.0.3.4 (March 4, 2025)
• | Starting with this release, only 64-bit versions of CAD6 are available. All outdated 32-bit parts and corresponding limitations have been removed. |
• | A complete overhaul of memory management has reduced the initial memory requirement per drawing window to less than half. Depending on the number of open libraries and fonts, this means up to 400 MiB less memory is used – per drawing! |
• | CAD6industrie and CAD6studio now include the new, completely in-house developed DirectPDF at no extra cost. Use it to directly create high-resolution PDF files with Unicode texts, all colors models (RGB/HSB, CMYK, gray, CIELab), transparencies, and hyperlinks, as well as, if desired, layers and embedded color space profiles. The output resolution is 0.00000035 mm, which is more accurate by a factor of about 30,000 compared to using a standard PDF printer driver (better than CAD6PDF by a factor of 10). PDF/A-1b and PDF/A-2b files can be created. |
• | Owners of a CAD6PDF license can continue to use that with all its features for the foreseeable future. However, we recommend switching to DirectPDF soon. New CAD6PDF licenses are no longer available. |
• | The context menu now also contains commands for aligning text, creating and using links between text and objects, and editing commands for dimensions. |
• | In all dialogs that feature a font selection, you can call the new "Font List" dialog which allows a graphical selection of the font and the search for partial texts in the font's name. |
• | The insertion point of bitmap references can now be selected and moved in the same way as other definition points and the insertion point of block instances (e.g. using Move Set of Points > Offset). |
• | The Automatic Trim / Cutout and Automatic Lengthen trimming commands now work much faster in complex situations. In addition, buttons in the parameter window can be used to set whether hatching and/or text should be taken into account. |
• | The maximum number of buttons in the Block Window has been increased from 200 to 500. The arrangement of the buttons now remains the same even if the window height is changed. Command buttons can now be moved in all four directions in the block window, the Tool Window and the Panel. |
• | During Bitmap Export, an RGB color space profile can now also be assigned to the generated bitmap. |
• | New command "Show Overview of Only These Items" in the "Layers" dialog and "Pens" dialog for selected items. Elements in folders are indented without annoying repetition of the folder name. |
• | Pen and layer "*Standard" no longer exist in this form; they have been replaced by "- Not assigned to any Layer -" and "- Not assigned to any Pen -" respectively. Functionally, this makes no difference. The former line pattern "*Standard" has been renamed "- Solid Line -". All other "*Standard" have been renamed to "- Standard -" to be more recognizable. |
• | If a warning was issued during bitmap export (e.g. "Text outlined and underlined"), the output was sometimes aborted without further notification. |
• | If the search criteria are changed during the search when searching for texts, properties, or in databases, the search is now correctly restarted and the number of hits is updated. |
• | When changing the properties of texts that use a currently unavailable system font (such as DINDRAFT), nonsensical options were displayed. After the changes, the texts were partially marked as underlined or crossed out. |
• | The export of 3D data using CAD6PDF was not available (grayed out in the dialog by mistake). The output of header and/or footer texts caused the output to be aborted. |
• | The Command Bar can now also be hidden in unlicensed versions of CAD6 and in CAD6starter. |
• | mkzip.exe and mkunzip.exe are no longer included as they used outdated 32-bit libraries. Instead, the free 64-bit software 7-Zip is now used for all compression purposes. |
• | Starting with release 2025, compressed drawing files will be saved in 7-Zip format instead of ZIP format. This makes them about 1/4 smaller and reduces computing time. |
• | All installation files are now compressed with 7-Zip format instead of ZIP, making them about 5% smaller. Unpacking is considerately faster. |
Release 2024.2.12.10 (December 10, 2024)
• | When exporting WMF format, dashed lines were incorrect. |
• | When copying SVG format to the clipboard, two different format types are now used to be compatible with more programs. |
• | In the "Insert Block" dialog, the state of the "... into nested groups" option was not displayed correctly. |
Release 2024.2.10.8 (October 8, 2024)
• | Undo and Redo now display which command was undone or restored. |
• | The Context Menu now also includes numerous commands for trimming, transforming, and deleting. It has been made clearer using sub-menus. |
• | When snapping intersection points, intersections of Bézier curves with themselves are now also recognized. |
• | Dimension numbers in dimensions can now be directly rotated by 180° using an option. |
• | Commands in the "Manage > Coordinate Systems / Scales" submenu were temporarily inactive, although they should have been available. |
• | After a SVG import, not all imported objects were marked as "previous identification". |
• | When working with multiple drawing windows, all windows now remember their respective zoom and coordinate system settings when switching between different pages (and the model area in layout mode). |
• | The Popup Window now closes automatically when the mouse pointer leaves it. In addition, tooltips now appear for all buttons that display the respective command (in addition to the display in the title bar). |
• | When opening very old drawing files, color gradients could be converted incorrectly. |
• | When switching from multi-monitor to single-monitor operation, windows could remain outside the visible area and thus be "hidden". |
- | When exporting selected objects, an incorrect origin could be used under certain circumstances. |
- | When working with multiple drawing windows, the origin of the drawing window in which the objects were selected is now always used for export when exporting selected objects. |
• | When using CAD6starter in Viewer Mode, drawing files opened in it are no longer locked at the file level and can still be changed by other programs. |
• | The installer tool has been converted to Unicode. |
Release 2024.1.6.25 (June 25, 2024)
• | For the SVG export, you can now set the minimum line width to be used. Texts with a height of zero and blocks with a scaling of zero will be skipped during output. |
• | The settings of Create Graph were not saved at program end. In some rare parameter constellations, the graph creation could result in an endless loop. |
• | Snapping center points sometimes did not work if "Snapping Guides" were ignored. |
• | The maximum dimension of a bitmap during export is now checked more intelligently in order to get as close as possible to the Windows-internal limit of 2 GiB if necessary. |
• | The resolving of block instances can now be stopped more directly by pressing the ESC key. |
• | Permanently visible windows (e.g. layers, notes, pages) did not show the specific icon in the title bar. |
Release 2024.1.6.5 (June 5, 2024)
• | All options related to data exchange via clipboard and via import and export can now be managed centrally with the new Options > Data Exchange command. |
• | The SVG export was integrated directly into the program and revised. More compact, easier to read by other programs and now also usable for the clipboard. It can now handle bitmaps that use effects such as brightness or gamma modification. |
• | SVG files can now be opened and imported, as well as exchanged via the clipboard. |
• | You can now set what should happen when you "drag & drop" a file: import, replace, or open in a new window. |
• | In the "Layers" dialog and "Pens" dialog, the respective status of their sub-elements is better displayed for folders: active for all, active for none, different states. |
• | Color Gradients of the "Stripes" type can now also use negative start and end threshold values. |
• | In the Drawing List, drawings can now optionally be imported (instead of replacing the current drawing). |
• | Changes in the Object Manager were sometimes not adopted. Changes in nested clippings or nested groups sometimes resulted in the edited object being duplicated. |
- | When importing DXF/DWG, instances in pages could be scaled incorrectly under certain circumstances. |
- | Attribute texts were not always displayed correctly. |
- | Surfaces in block definitions were displayed incorrectly in rare cases. |
• | CAM part in CAD6industrie: |
- | An error in post-processor output with material advance has been corrected. |
- | The list of recent CAM projects is now updated correctly. |
Release 2024.0.3.26 (March 26, 2024)
• | For architectural dimensions, centimeters can now be selected as the input unit as alternative to meters. |
• | With using Line > Parallel and similar commands, the displayed auxiliary straight line during distance definition was accidentally used for snapping, which meant that snapping points were always found and used primarily. Meaningful snapping was thus impossible. |
• | The screen display of color gradients has been optimized. In addition, the "Linear" button was displayed incorrectly in the parameter dialogs. |
• | Objects in mappings could often no longer be selected for snapping or as a reference object. |
• | If the "Use object properties" option was not active in the Selection Filter, filtering within groups was accidentally no longer possible. |
• | Line pattern lengths in scaled pages were not scaled correctly in the printout. |
• | In some dialogs, the Pinboard button displayed a narrow menu without any text. |
• | The display of the decimal places information in the dialog for Options > Crosshairs was sometimes incorrect. |
• | Color buttons that were either inactive or did not display any color were incorrectly completely invisible. |
• | The names of passive pens have been displayed slightly shifted in buttons. |
• | The icon in layer and pen buttons in the panel, tool window and command bar was too large. |
• | In dialogs with tabs, the display was unreliable, and in some cases all elements were missing after a redraw. |
• | More elements of the "File Selection" Dialog are now conform to the chosen skin. The handling of extension was improved. |
- | Handling options for markings / POINT objects have been extended. |
Release 2024.0.3.12 (March 12, 2024)
• | The display in drawing windows can now be rotated freely using the new Zoom Rotation > Angle command and others. This means, among other things, that a possible rotation angle can be retained when switching between mappings in the Model Space and on pages. |
• | In each drawing window's scale, you can choose to display a button to access a zoom menu for that window and display the current zoom values next to it. |
• | When the view is rotated, the Coordinate Entry (F8) makes a distinction between relative coordinates parallel to the axes and parallel to the screen borders. |
• | The Dynamic Snapping Guide has been revised. It no longer requires switching between "Line / Arc" and "Endless Line / Circle" and offers numerous additional options, all in one menu. That menu can now also be accessed from the parameter window and the panel. |
• | Pages can now be excluded from printing and can be color coded in all lists and in the layout window. |
• | Layer visibility can now be adjusted when displaying Model Space in layout mode. It can be automatically applied from the previous page and/or mapping when switching to it. |
• | In the context menu of the layout window, a page can now be duplicated, i.e. a new page can be created with a copy of the content. |
• | The layer visibility of Model Space, pages, mappings, clippings, and references can now be pinned to the pinboard and stored in collections. |
• | In layout mode, the zoom undo information is now stored separately for Model Space and every page. |
• | Comments on variables can now be accessed as variables themselves by adding a colon after the variable name. Those comments can now be up to 255 characters long. |
• | Command buttons in the Toolbox Window and in the Panel can now be assigned to custom menus that are automatically displayed as soon as the mouse pointer is hovering over this button. |
• | The Block Window buttons have two additional size options to fit more buttons into tight spaces. |
• | A total of 10 former plug-ins were integrated directly into the program. This means that their commands could be better placed in the menu, are faster to execute, and require less storage space. |
• | When creating a Center Cross, two auxiliary lines are displayed so that any intersection points can be captured directly. |
• | In the "Insert Block" dialog, the angle presets can now be selected even if "Manual Rotation" is active. |
• | For the block preview in dialogs, you can now choose not to resolve attributes, variables, and text statements. |
• | Mappings in blocks were sometimes displayed and output incompletely or not at all. |
• | Embedded instances are no longer reported as "missing" while opening the drawing if the referenced block is not available. |
• | In lists showing blocks within libraries, all read-only libraries are now marked with a lock icon. |
• | When writing floating point numbers to CSV databases, a decimal point can now be forced (instead of a comma). |
• | The arrangement of the drawing windows is now saved with the drawing. |
• | Layers > Defaults now also offers settings for mid-perpendiculars and center crosses. |
• | When importing EMF data from files and the clipboard, complex polygons within paths are now handled correctly. |
• | The Skin is now consistently applied to all dialogs, including in plug-ins. This makes dark skins in particular look much better. The former "Gray" skin has been optimized and renamed to "Dark", all others have been revised in some details. |
• | The settings for incremental and reference dimensions were accidentally not saved in the respective drawing. |
• | When printing with "Microsoft Print to PDF", the program could hang when canceling the appearing file selection dialog. |
• | If the "Open additional libraries and manage" button was used in one of the block selection dialogs, a program crash could subsequently occur. |
- | For 3D block instances, the context menu in the 3D Parts Tree accidentally did not contain the "Parameters" and "Resolution" entries. |
- | All dialogs for creating 3D parts now feature a "Reset" button. |
Release 2023.2.12.19 (December 19, 2023)
• | When entering a circular arc through 3 points in a Polyline / Curve or Freeform / Surface, the displayed auxiliary circle itself was accidentally used for snapping, which meant that snapping points were always found and used primarily. Meaningful snapping was thus impossible. |
• | When copying properties in incremental or reference dimensions, some properties were overwritten with inappropriate values. |
• | If the entire Construction Aid was switched off by hiding a layer or a pen, it remained invisible even if it should have become visible again by displaying the layer or the pen. It only became visible again after redrawing the screen using the space bar or when pressing F9. |
• | The New Page dialog now remembers the last grid settings. |
• | The list dialogs for selecting coordinate systems and hatchings initially accidentally did not highlight the currently selected item. |
- | Plain 3D Parts with lines and markings were often displayed incompletely. In addition, the surrounding frame of such objects was also incorrectly calculated. |
- | Corners and edges of such plain 3D parts were neither displayed nor could they be snapped or identified. |
Release 2023.2.12.12 (December 12, 2023)
• | If a reference to an external drawing could not be resolved, the reference was no longer displayed at all, including the information text. Even after correcting the reference in the Drawing Manager, the reference did not immediately become visible again. |
• | Objects in layers explicitly hidden in drawing references could still be accidentally selected and highlighted. |
• | Auto columns in databases that contain numerical values (such as area) are always displayed with the number separator of the active coordinate system, which resulted in errors when using "comma" both as number separator and the data field separator. In that case, those numbers are now displayed with a decimal point instead. |
• | Unfortunately, the system template files were out of date in the last release, so not all 90+ line types and 200+ hatching types were available. |
Release 2023.2.11.14 (November 14, 2023)
• | Drawings that were created using Backup > Archive Drawing in the “CAD6 2023 Drawings” format could no longer be opened afterwards. This error could only be corrected by editing the file manually. |
• | In the "Edit Properties" dialog for multiple objects, changing the opacity for lines or fills alone often did not work. |
• | The "Manage Folders" dialog for layers and pens accidentally also displayed folders that were not selected and therefore could not be changed. |
• | No parameter dialog was offered when right-clicking the "Multiline" button in the Parameter Window. |
• | Some zoom functions did not correctly take the parameter window into account; an offset could occur when switching back and forth between pages. |
Release 2023.2.10.10 (October 10, 2023)
• | For all commands that offer parameters or options during input, the new Parameter Window now appears in the main drawing window. In some cases, the parameter window in mandatory, other cases can edited in Options > Windows. |
• | When Generating a Surface, a direct preview is now available while entering the reference points. The calculation has been significantly accelerated so that larger object sets can also be selected without any problems. Text and hatching can optionally be excluded from the calculation. Using buttons in the Parameter Window, you can now choose for each individual reference point whether normal drawing objects, Construction Aid objects, and/or Snapping Guide objects shall be recognized. |
• | Snap modes have been restructured. The two "Intersection" snap modes have been combined and can now be controlled using the new Construct > Display > Idle command. "Corner/Endpoint" and "Marking" snap modes have been merged. All less frequently used modes have been moved to a submenu, allowing the snap mode buttons in the panel to be significantly larger. |
• | Right-clicking an object in the drawing window now invokes the new Context Menu by default, offering commands specific to the clicked object. This also works on procedures and page frames. The old mouse button options can still be selected via Options > Mouse / Keys. |
• | The "Insert Block" dialog has been revised and is now clearer. A rotation angle can now optionally be entered with the mouse. It is also possible to immediately copy any inserted blocks from a library into the drawing as internal blocks or to resolve them into groups in order to be independent of the library. |
• | The number of available attributes for Parts Lists of any objects and groups has been increased, now dimensions such as length and area, as well as various properties are available. |
• | Most dialogs in which scale-dependent values are entered or displayed now show the currently active scale. |
• | The CAD6 Default Library has been extended with numerous hatching templates for pavement, tile, and brickwork bonds. |
• | In the "Edit Line Types" dialog has been reworked and now allows to add "gaps" in addition to blocks for block line patterns. |
• | Line types, hatching types, coordinate systems, and variables can now have comments. |
• | Variables can now be stored on the Pinboard and in Collections. |
• | The calculation of hatches has been accelerated, in the case of block hatches sometimes by a factor of 100 or more. |
• | All hatching type lists now show a preview. The maximum number of hatching types in a drawing has been increased from 100 to 1,000. |
• | Objects that cannot be filled (line, curve, spline, arc) are no longer invisible if they only use the "Filling" fill mode, but are instead displayed on the screen as finely dashed outlines. |
• | CAM part in CAD6industrie: |
- | When exporting with postprocessor and then selecting the file name, the setting "Open exported file in NC editor" was not taken into account. |
- | You can now enter a precision for converting into lines in the postprocessor settings. If this option is deactivated, the value set in the drawing (see Manage > Drawing Settings > Precision) continues to be used. |
- | When exporting for laser and waterjet cutters as well as cutting plotters, you can now set in the postprocessor settings for the "Tool Path" whether duplicate tool paths should be avoided and gaps should be closed automatically. A corresponding tolerance value can be entered for this purpose. |
- | With the help of new CAM variables for the execution of postprocessor control texts, it is possible to display a message after the export or to abort the export with an error message. |
- | Hidden objects (e.g. texts) in blocks were incorrectly displayed in block instances. |
- | Simple splines may have appeared in incorrect positions. |
• | Sets of pens were not correctly stored to the Pinboard and to Collections. |
• | Creating new dimension texts did not work. |
Release 2023.1.6.27 (June 27, 2023)
• | If the "Manage Fonts" dialog was exited with "OK", the names of the previously opened fonts were accidentally deleted so that those fonts were no longer accessible. The default fill mode now also works for fillable font libraries such as "DinLQ" and "GreekLQ". |
• | In the "Object Choice" dialog, the properties of the respective object were not always displayed correctly, but sometimes showed properties of a previously listed object. |
• | In the Object Manager, the layer, pen, and line type properties of objects in external references where not displayed correctly. |
• | CAM part in CAD6industrie: |
- | Additional options for postprocessor settings and job parameters. |
Release 2023.1.6.6 (June 6, 2023)
• | From now on, all 150+ available Standard Libraries with more than 20,000 symbols are included in the scope of delivery of CAD6industrie and CAD6studio, they no longer have to be purchased separately. |
• | The File > New command is now much more convenient. In addition to different sheet sizes and page counts, drawing frames and title blocks can now also be selected directly. In addition, a list of recently used templates is available. |
• | The "Manage Libraries" dialog searches the standard paths for libraries and displays all libraries found there that are not yet open in a separate list from which they can be opened easily (also several at once). |
• | The basic system libraries are now automatically opened when the program is started for the first time, but they can be closed permanently again afterwards. |
• | In the "Edit Properties" dialog and all subordinate dialogs for multiple objects, all values that vary across the total number of selected objects are marked as such so that you can immediately see which values are the same for all objects. |
• | The form and size of Markings can now be determined for the display and output; they can also be displayed in color and/or zoom-dependent. |
• | The Command Bar's appearance has been reworked. It is tidier and much narrower, and there are no more small symbols. |
• | Most dialogs now directly display a concise help text when hovering with the mouse pointer over control elements. |
• | Pressing the F1 key now displays the help text of the current command, screen element, or menu item, depending on the position of the mouse pointer. The previous separation into two different help commands is therefore superfluous. |
• | The display of object properties at the crosshairs has been revised. Line pattern and width can now also be displayed. In addition, only the values that are relevant and are not derived from other visible information are displayed. An indicator can be displayed if the current command owns a parameter dialog. |
• | A reference newly created using External Reference > Insert was initially not visible, only after e.g. saving and re-opening the drawing. |
• | In the "Object Choice" dialog, the displayed properties were not always correct for groups and extended objects. |
• | The 2D coordinate axes can now be displayed. |
- | The overall parameters of the 3D Part have been split into a set of general, computer-dependent options (see 3D > Options) and a set of drawing-dependent settings (see 3D > Drawing Settings). |
- | Both DXF/DWG import and DXF/DWG export now support rotated coordinate systems. |
- | The same applies to symbols used to indicate points or marks in the drawing. |
• | CAM part in CAD6industrie: |
- | When opening a CAM project saved in an older format, the postprocessor chain information was ignored. |
• | When resolving a Spline, the last segment was sometimes lost. |
• | If the ESC key was pressed to close a dialog while the snap preview was active, sometimes the dialog "Shall the current process be cancelled?" appeared by mistake. |
• | The term "Scenario" has been replaced with the more appropriate term "Procedure" throughout the program. |
• | The former "View" menu has been renamed to "Manage", the former "Shape" menu has been renamed to "Modify", the former "Text" menu has been renamed to "Annotate". |
Release 2023.0.4.20 (April 20, 2023)
• | In the Auto-Converter, the control text for the index file was incorrectly formatted after restarting the program. |
• | When switching to the "Classic" page display mode, the page output mode is now only set to "Classic", too, if it was not previously "Like on the screen". |
• | During uninstallation, information about other programs could also be accidentally deleted. |
Release 2023.0.4.4 (April 4, 2023)
• | If an object selection choice dialog appeared while snapping was permanently active with snap preview, the program could crash. |
• | When resolving clippings in layout mode, the result sometimes became invisible until switching to another page and back again. |
• | When importing using DXF/DWG, block clippings (block instances in clippings) were positioned incorrectly. |
• | When exporting 3D Paths using DXF/DWG, undesired additional 2D lines could be created. |
Release 2023.0.3.14 (March 14, 2023)
• | In some printing procedures, the assignment to the previously selected printer did not work correctly. |
• | Creating new tables was not possible. |
Release 2023.0.2.14 (February 14, 2023)
• | When Snapping is active, a preview at the crosshairs is now available showing which point would be snapped from the current position (including its derivation and coordinates). |
• | The display of information about the actually snapped point is now much more detailed. |
- | Use the new 3D Mappings to dynamically map 3D spaces into the 2D world, enabling you to display multiple views of the same 3D parts in one drawing. |
- | All previews (when creating, inserting, and modifying) now show the 3D parts with transparently colored, filled surfaces. |
- | The new working mode View Preset > Work in View Plane simplifies working in planes that are not parallel to one of the three standard planes of the room, but also saves you having to constantly switch the working plane when changing the view. |
- | The working plane now also affects the creation of new 3D parts. |
- | For each 3D space, you can choose whether the axes of the isometric or the plan view should be displayed in their original size relative to the 2D world. If desired, the scaling can be switched automatically when the view is switched. |
- | With a new Option for 3D spaces, additional snap points can be displayed on "round" outlines, which can significantly simplify work in both 3D and 2D. |
- | You can now choose which 3D Part buttons shall be displayed in the plug-in window. The buttons in the plug-in window can also be spread over multiple columns. |
- | Each 3D part can now consist of up to 1,000,000 faces (instead of 500,000). |
• | The Clipping > Resolve command now has the option to completely discard the clipping outline. |
• | Using the object property Variables ~*p10~, ~*p11~, and ~*p12~ did not always work correctly in texts within a block. |

Release 2022.2.11.8 (November 8, 2022)
• | In the "Pens" dialog, all pens of the current drawing can now be switched to "Passive". They then only serve as properties presets for newly created objects. Changes to pens no longer actively affect existing objects. Accordingly, the display, output, etc. of pens can no longer be switched on and off. The passive mode for pens is recommended if data is to be exchanged with other CAD systems via DXF/DWG which do not support pens on principle. |
• | Parts Lists can now also be created for arbitrary objects and groups using their local attributes. |
• | All mirroring commands (such as Mirror Objects > Horizontal) now offer an option to keep all texts among the mirrored objects non-mirrored. |
• | For export and output procedures, you can now specify a filter that shall be applied when selecting objects. For export procedures, you can also specify a collection item containing options for the respective filter. |
• | When exporting bitmaps, a gamma correction can now be applied to the generated bitmap. |

- | The new passive mode for pens is automatically activated during import. |
- | A scaling factor other than 1.0 in the import options was incorrectly applied twice on block instances. |
- | The output of genuine 3D data did not work correctly. |
Release 2022.1.8.16 (August 16, 2022)
• | When creating a parts list as a CSV file, sometimes too many data record separators were written. |
• | The DBF database import did not work correctly. |
• | If the page display was not "Classic (all)", some layer functions sometimes did not work. |
• | Immediately after opening a drawing, comments were often not displayed immediately, but only after the next screen refresh. |
• | Comment symbols with an opacity less than 100% were displayed incorrectly. |
• | DXF/DWG: With some special drawings, incomplete data or a program crash could occur during the export. |
Release 2022.1.7.19 (July 19, 2022)
• | Choosing a page size other than the printer driver's default page size did not work with Windows printers. |
• | When highlighting a comment, the associated status icon appeared in the top ruler instead of at the crosshairs. |
- | The output was aborted if a comment without area data was included. |
- | If the output was aborted by the library due to an error, the drawing was often not fully accessible afterwards because it was still marked internally as "Editing in Progress". |
• | The unlock program did not always recognize the correct system language (German or English). |
Release 2022.1.7.8 (July 8, 2022)
Release 2022.1.7.7 (July 7, 2022)
• | Fixed an internal error with object enumeration that caused several problems: |
- | Dynamic hatchings with more than one line sequence only showed the first line sequence. |
- | CAM Part: Pocket milling did work correctly. |
- | 3D Part: Creating 3D blocks, splitting 3D part groups, and 3D data export did not work correctly. |
• | Optional CAD6PDF: Entering a custom sheet format with a width greater than the height produced unexpected results. |
Release 2022.1.7.5 (July 5, 2022)
• | Starting with this release, only 64-bit versions of CAD6 are available. For a short period, 32-bit versions of CAD6industrie and CAD6studio are available upon request if using a 64-bit version is impossible in your environment. |
• | This manual now contains a detailed overview of where which Application Settings are saved and how they can be transferred to another computer. |
• | The activation has been revised to reduce the cases in which a new activation is required after Windows and BIOS updates. |
• | The message "The drawing has been changed. Save it?" now lists the up to four most recent change steps so that you can better decide whether saving is necessary. |
• | The new "File > Save as Other >" commands make it easier to directly export the complete drawing into another file format (instead of only a set of objects). |
• | Using Options > Data Exchange, you can now choose to not use Bézier curves when creating EMF data (for clipboard and export). |
• | The editing options for the raster graphics display (gamma, brightness, coloring, etc.) now use the built-in Direct2D effects and are therefore significantly faster than before, especially with huge bitmaps. |
• | The new command "Smooth out Polylines in Curves/Surfaces" in the "Advanced Drawing" plug-in allows complete outlines to be smoothed out quickly and easily. |
- | Planar 3D objects are now imported correctly. |
- | Hidden objects are exported as such and also imported. |
- | An error that occurred under certain circumstances when exporting drawing references has been corrected. |
- | If a block name ends with a space, this is now automatically deleted during the DXF/DWG export. |
- | The export of markings with multiple points now works correctly. |
- | Now features a central projection mode with vanishing point. Please read the notes on our approach to "infinity"! |
- | All 3D specific displays such as the 3D axis and the 3D origin are only displayed if at least one 3D object is contained in the drawing. |
- | The display of extrusion depths can be globally switched off and on again. |
• | CAM part in CAD6industrie: |
- | The tool parameter dialog has been made clearer. |
- | The tool type "milling/turning/drilling" now has two additional optional parameters. |
- | Names of additional options can now be edited. |
- | There is a new option for tool movement along the Z axis. This specifies that Z is always greater than or equal zero (e.g. for lasers and cutting knives). |
- | Now uses the new 10.0 version of the PDF library and can also create PDF 2.0 (ISO 32000-2). Outdated options were removed. If you own a license with non-expired Support & Updates, please contact us and request a new unlock code for free to be able to keep using it with this release. |
- | The complete output can now be gamma-corrected in order to adapt to printers that do not feature their own gamma-correction. |
• | A mapping accidentally mapped to model space was difficult to select and edit because its bounding frame was not displayed. |
• | Text underlining and striking out was not displayed and not printed using Windows printer drivers. |
• | Selecting by list did not work for some editing commands for procedures. |
• | The optional page select button in the Ruler did not offer the model space for selection. |
• | When editing properties of multiple marked blocks in the "Edit Block" dialog, only the first marked block was used to initialize the property dialog. As a result, the "Special" button was often missing or its menu incomplete. |
Release 2022.0.4.26 (April 26, 2022)
• | The current pen's number was correctly saved in drawing files, but not restored after loading a drawing. |
• | Exported bitmaps did not contain correct resolution (dpi) information. |
• | Changes to drawing settings in the print dialog now also mark the drawing as changed. |
Release 2022.0.3.8 (March 8, 2022)
• | When pasting a "Shapshot" from the clipboard that was created using Adobe Acrobat, only an empty (completely transparent) raster graphic was created and displayed. |
• | Some deranged curves with dashed outlines caused the screen display to fail at high zooms if the "Optimize line types [...]" option was set. |
• | Instances, clippings, and drawing references whose content is completely invisible due to its layer/pen assignment, can no longer be accidentally selected for editing. |
• | When adding freedoms to parametric compounds, the selected points were not displayed. |
• | Using names from collections or from the pinboard for selection in dialogs for layers, pens, etc. often did not work. |
• | The DXF/DWG export of mappings could lead to incorrect bounding boxes, which incorrectly displayed additional objects on the corresponding pages. |
• | When printing with CAD6PDF, bitmaps with an opacity of less than 100% (colored as well as monochrome) were output incorrectly. |
Release 2022.0.2.15 (February 15, 2022)
• | The memory requirements of the program increased a little with every mouse movement, every image refresh and every display of the layer and pen dialogs, so that after a long time the memory was running full and in extreme cases the program could crash. |
• | When printing using "Microsoft Print to PDF" without specifying a fixed file name, the situation could arise that the file selection dialog displayed by the printer driver was invisible and therefore no input was possible, which blocked the entire program. The output modes "Write with a PDF driver to [...]" now also work for this printer. |
• | A problem could occur with the export filter for DXF and DWG if a set of objects was selected for export that contained mappings (which must be ignored). |
• | When using the "Reverse all values" option in the "Notch Corner" dialog, some widths were swapped incorrectly. |
• | The postprocessor in CAD6industrie features a new variable for the current outline's exact length. |
Release 2022.0.2.8 (February 8, 2022)
• | After being unchanged for more than 30 years now, the screen display process has been converted completely from GDI / GDI+ to Direct2D, which means that all outputs are accelerated by the graphics card. This has several advantages: |
- | The image build-up is faster for complex drawings, sometimes by a factor of up to 5. |
- | The display quality for raster graphics and the edge smoothing of objects and texts are permanently available without any loss of speed. |
- | The improved handling of transparent surfaces makes it possible to display objects in a slightly transparent manner while they are being moved and edited, which means that the background is still recognizable, and, more fluid than before. |
- | The support of high screen resolutions is much more powerful and leads to better readable control elements and user feedback. |
- | In the General Options, you can now explicitly choose how many smallest details are to be displayed on screen. In this way, the image build-up can be accelerated by an additional factor of up to 4 for extensive projects. |
Since graphics acceleration now matters, we recommend using a discrete DirectX 12 graphics card with at least 2 GB RAM.
• | The handling of raster graphics has also been converted: |
- | Raster graphics export as well as the generation of preview graphics for drawings and blocks now also use Direct2D, which makes them faster. |
- | In addition, it is now possible to generate raster graphics with a transparent background (in BMP, PNG, and TIFF format). |
- | In the General Options, you can choose to only load raster graphics once they are displayed or output for the first time. This accelerates the opening of numerous and extensive raster graphics and reduces the memory requirement. |
- | No more third-party programming libraries are used. In addition to a higher reliability and some speed increases, this also means that the size of the program has been reduced. |
• | The handling of kerning tables for TrueType and OpenType fonts has been optimized so that the display of long texts with high-quality fonts (which usually have large kerning tables) is significantly faster. |
• | Mappings can now allow the texts and blocks contained in them to adapt to the scaling, i.e. keep their size regardless of the scaling of the mapping. To do this, the corresponding option must also be set in those objects. |
• | The Check Object > Check command now offers the option to check for identical elements in with a single object or across multiple objects. |
• | The vertical arrangement of texts when using CAD6 fonts such as "DINDRAFT" and "DINLQ" has been revised so that it always works the same way, regardless of the text content. This can lead to a slight vertical offset in existing drawings compared to before. |
• | The display of object properties at the crosshairs is now also available during standard point entry, not only during object selection. |
• | There is a new "Scale" option for the display at the crosshairs, with which the scale and length unit of a dimension are displayed directly when it is highlighted. |
• | When selecting multiple layers or pens in a dialog, the "Select chosen elements" option was inactive most of the time. |
• | The "Rename folder" command in the folder manager for layers and pens did not work for the first folder in the list. |
• | The "semi-arc" arrow shape for arrows from the drawing plug-in was sometimes drawn incorrectly. |
• | The maximum number of points per partial polygon within curves and surfaces has been increased for the "Reserve larger object buffers" option in the General Options from 30,000 to 200,000 in order to be able to display and edit extremely detailed outlines. |
• | When saving a drawing with a very high nesting depth of over 20, a crash could occur due to a memory overflow. |
• | The import and export filters for DXF and DWG were revised and some small errors fixed. The export can now be limited to a selection of pages. |
Release 2021.2.11.30 (November 30, 2021)
• | An object selection via polygon, which was started directly with Extra > Identify > Identify Area, Polygon, only allowed a maximum of 8 points for the polygon. If the area selection was started by pressing the SHIFT key instead, up to 500 points were correctly accepted. |
• | When calling up filters that were saved on the pinboard or in a collection, any information about text search and/or database search was not correctly restored. |
• | If, from outside the respective dialog, a layer or a pen is selected within a collapsed folder, this entry is displayed, but without opening the folder completely. |
• | The calculation of surface areas inadvertently returned a negative value in some cases with touching partial surfaces. |
• | The procedure for opening several drawings at the same time has been rearranged to prevent problems due to simultaneous access to shared resources. |
Release 2021.2.11.2 (November 2, 2021)
• | Folders in the layer and pen list can now be opened and closed using '+' / '-'. The respective state is permanently noted in the drawing. Above all, this makes it easier to work with large numbers of layers and/or pens. |
• | The new "Copy to Clipboard" command in the "Edit Block" dialog allows to easily copy internal blocks from one drawing to another. |
• | When searching or filtering for texts, you can now also use (partial) layer and pen names. |
• | A new options allows to automatically resolve variables and statements in texts being copied to the clipboard. This and all other relevant options are now accessible by means of the Change Parameters (+ESC) command. |
• | In the case of block line patterns, in addition to the line color, the line width can now also be passed on to the blocks. |
• | When importing or inserting files with procedures, an error message occurred if procedures with the same name already existed. |
• | Use the Update Procedure command to easily adapt an existing procedure to changed settings. |
• | When copying via the clipboard in layout mode, the page assignment was not adjusted correctly if only groups were copied. |
• | The "live" display of objects during moving and modifying has been improved to flicker less. |
• | The cycles and timeouts for communication between the program and the dongle server have been increased significantly in order to reduce the network load and to avoid errors in the event of a high data traffic due to many licenses that are active at the same time. |
• | When using the postprocessor in CAD6industrie along with material feed, there could be undesired outlines at the clipping edges. |
• | A DXF/DWG export with clipped blocks in hidden layers could cause a program crash. |
• | In the HP-GL/2-Import options, you can now also choose 1 mm as plotter unit. Together with the available scaling factor, for example, a plotter file (*.plt) can be imported that specifies all coordinates in 1/100 mm (e.g. Zünd cutting plotter). |
• | CAD6starter can now also write older MKD and MKL file versions in order to enable cooperation with CAD6 editions that are no longer up-to-date. |
• | There is no more separate product information PDF file. All relevant information is now available online at www.CAD6.com – always up to date. As a result, the installation data is more than 10 MB smaller than before. |
• | The CAD6 Dongle Server Software documentation is also available online. |
Release 2021.1.8.10 (August 10, 2021)
• | As an alternative to physical USB dongles, you can now also purchase a virtual CAD6dongle to distribute your licenses for CAD6studio and CAD6industrie over your local network. A virtual dongle works with the free Dongle Server software. That's especially useful in connection with remote or virtual servers that do not feature dedicated USB ports. Please note that a virtual CAD6dongle is only available for Release 2021.1 and later, and only for licenses with non-expired Support & Updates. |
• | The commands of the Dynamic Snapping Guide have been revised. They now offer the option to create lines and arcs instead of endless lines and circles, plus additional commands. In addition to snapping, Snapping Guide objects can now also be used as outline elements when creating or assembling curves and surfaces. |
• | Position numbers can now belong to one of 10 independent number ranges, allowing more flexibility. Creating position numbers has been simplified by better access to general attributes and a global "Position Number Options" dialog. When renumbering position numbers, you can choose which number ranges to include. |
• | The "Generate Parts List" dialog and the "Choose Parts List Attributes" dialog have been revised. The list of chosen attributes is now stored permanently and independent from external changes. When using position numbers, you can choose which number ranges to include. When creating a parts list with combined positions numbers, you can now also access local attributes of those position numbers. After a parts list has been successfully generated, a direct preview of its content can be displayed. If attribute texts contain the text delimiter, this is automatically converted. |
• | It is now possible to create Procedures for parts lists, either for the complete drawing or for a rectangular or polygonal section of the drawing. Since you can easily execute multiple or all parts list procedures at once, updating parts lists has become even easier. All kinds of procedures can now be saved individually in MKD files and imported from them again. |
• | Procedures with rectangular or polygonal areas (such as block creation and bitmap export) can now also be manually moved and copied. |
• | The "Object Choice" dialog now considers and highlights transmission by layer and pen for the property display. In addition, colors will now also be displayed as color spaces. |
• | In all block dialogs, you can now call the "Recently Used Blocks" dialog. It lists up to 100 blocks in chronological order with preview and a search option. |
• | While placing a block from the Block Window, you can now use the Change Parameters (+ESC) command to temporarily change parameters such as scaling and rotation. Once you choose the same block again from the Block Window, the original saved parameters will be restored. |
• | Instances, drawing references, and clipping surfaces now have an additional option that allows ignoring the visibility of their layers and pens. This is especially useful when importing third-party files. |
• | The object information display at the crosshairs now also shows the number of point and outlines for objects such as curves and surfaces. |
• | The dedicated import of layers, pens and comments from MKD files is now also possible from compressed files. |
• | All settings of the commands for rounding, chamfering, correcting, and notching corners are now maintained permanently. In addition, you can now choose whether the properties of the object identified first shall be applied to all other involved objects. |
• | When opening a drawing using CMYK and/or LAB colors without having valid color profiles loaded, a warning will be displayed. |
• | The "Add to list" and "Create new file" buttons in the "Manage Collections" dialog did not work correctly, adding only a completely empty entry to the list. |
• | When opening a drawing with tables that have to update their row number due to changed database contents, the number of row data sets was often not updated accordingly, so that rows at the end were neither identifiable nor changeable. Even updating the table did not always work in those cases. |
• | When using "From Layer" properties, many tooltips and and the line width edit control did not work correctly. |
• | Color gradients created on pages in layout mode disappeared when resolved into standard clipping surfaces. |
• | When printing by means of CAD6PDF, bitmaps in layers hidden by mappings were output nonetheless. |
• | The postprocessor in CAD6industrie now also supports local attributes, contour attributes, and point attributes in the relevant control texts. Further information can be found in the CAD6industrie CAM Manual in the chapter "Variables for Control Texts". |
• | An error was corrected in the DXF/DWG export which resulted in clipped block instances often being not fully exported. In addition, clipped reference drawings are now supported for both export and import of DXF/DWG files. |
• | When using a registered version to save a drawing initially created by a trial version, the file access limitations were not removed from the drawing file. |
• | Some old files with file format versions prior to 4.60 (May 1998) failed to open. |
Release 2021.0.4.13 (April 13, 2021)
• | The Assemble Surface and Assemble Curve commands now offer an option to maintain the properties of the first identified object for the final result (instead of default layer and pen). |
• | The Selection Filter from Object command now features additional "Object Type", "Library Name", and "Block Name" options for frequently used cases. |
• | Extended objects created by plug-ins can now better control which of their parts shall be used for snapping, identification, and printing. |
• | When editing an object type filter criterion in the Selection Filter dialog, the initialization of the list’s selection was partly out of place. |
• | Changes in the CAM part of CAD6industrie: New postprocessor "Excellon", revised postprocessor "Gerber RS-274X". Furthermore, a drawing and a CAM project file for printed circuit board (PCB) production are supplied. Editing multiple jobs for the postprocessor chain has been improved. After executing the "Save CAM Project As" command, the new file name will now immediately be applied. |
• | The "Manage Attributes" dialog could cause a program crash when the exact same operation was tried to add to the list of operations again. |
• | When opening very old drawing files, the conversion of old object versions from plug-ins (such as lettering, dimensions, text on path, etc.) did not always work and could cause scrambled text contents, error messages, or belated crashes. |
• | By mistake, point identification always allowed to identify points of Construction Aid endless lines and beams, although that should only be possible with the appropriate options set. |
• | A problem with misplaced clipping surfaces during DXF and DWG import has been fixed. |
• | On high-resolution displays (150% text scaling and more), the shortcut key display in menu items extended into the sub-menu arrow. |

• | Searching for Text now works in all kind of attribute values in all object types. In addition, you can now search in attribute names. |
• | Saving a library containing standard attributes caused the program to go into an endless loop while making the library file unusable at the same time. |
• | When activated, the point display also displayed points from extended object whose display was explicitly disabled by the plug-in. |
Release 2021.0.3.10 (March 10, 2021)
• | When updating, the setup program did not correctly remove the old MKLIST1 plug-in. As a result, an error initializing that outdated plug-in was reported each time the new version was started. |
• | In specific situations, the program created empty BMP files in the Windows directory for temporary files without removing them afterwards. |
• | CAD6starter could not open BLD files. |
Release 2021.0.3.9 (March 9, 2021)
• | The new Malz++Kassner CAD6team 10 and CAD6team 25 are the attractive 2D/3D CAD solutions for teams and whole companies. Use CAD6studio on up to 10 or CAD6industrie on up to 25 workplaces concurrently for a very attractive flat rental fee. |
• | All kinds of objects (normal objects, clippings, mappings, references, extended objects) can now contain local attributes like only blocks, instances, and groups could before. Using local attributes, arbitrary textual data can be attached to those objects and retrieved. |
• | In addition to the previous command for editing text and attributes, the new Modify > Edit > Local Attributes command enables you to add attributes to multiple objects simultaneously, as well as edit, rename, and delete them. |
• | Graphical objects such as a line, circle, curve, and surface can now also contain Outline Attributes and Point Attributes which are specifically attached to an individual outline or point within an object, adding textual information to them. |
• | Automatic and Manual Backup have been revised. Above all, they now feature an option for Cloud-optimized saving in the background. This results in the backup file being created in a flash locally and then being transferred to its final destination in the background, allowing you to keep on working without interruption. This also works for a backup to slow servers and NAS system via local network or VPN. |
• | In addition to an internal notebook, each drawing now also contains an internal collection, offering a way to store a variety of non-graphical information for later reference. |
• | Dynamic Hatchings can now have their own, local fixed point and rotation. The new Hatching > Align Locally command helps to align hatchings to any given edge. |
• | When creating extrusions, paths, and rotations in the 3D Plug-In, you can now set an initial 3D offset for the start point of each created part, pre-arranging them in 3D space without any further effort. |
• | The 3D Plug-In now also supports the Export of 3MF Files. This format is very compact, allows the use of colors, and can be opened by many application including some standard applications in Windows. It has established itself as the de factor standard for producing parts by means of 3D printers. |
• | Changes in the CAM part of CAD6industrie: You can now define jobs for postprocessors in a chain. Export files can be combined with jobs, extra file names can be specified, a command line can be executed at the end of a job, and each job can contain a tool filter. The postprocessor chain, the jobs and the send parameters are now saved in the CAM project file together with the tool list. File injection allows the content of one NC file to be dynamically inserted into another while a postprocessor chain is being executed. |
• | Warnings and Notifications from the application and it plug-ins are now maintained as long as the application is running and can be viewed and searched in their own dialog window. |
• | The highlighting during a selection now also works for point selections. In addition, it is now possible to have all kinds of attributes (local, outline, and point) displayed at the cross-hairs. |
• | Chamfer, round, correct, and notch corners now also works with Construction Aid lines. |
• | The Object Manager now also allows editing comments of groups directly. |
• | The powerful, open application programming interface CAD6interface is now also supported by CAD6starter, allowing you to create your own plug-ins for any edition of CAD6 including the free CAD6starter. • | CAD6starter was partly unable to either save or print. |
Release 2020.2.11.3 (November 3, 2020)
• | The new Object Manager offers a comfortable and powerful method to analyze and edit all objects and blocks of the current drawing. The structure of the chosen objects is displayed as a tree view. Objects within blocks, groups, clippings, drawing references, and extended objects, can be viewed and modified individually or several at once. In addition, you can determine geometry data (such as length, angle, radius, surface area) and edit it numerically directly. |
• | The Selection Filter and Property Search now also offer geometrical data such as length, radius, angle, and surface area as search and filter criteria. Use this to search for all circles with a given radius, for example. |
• | Using the new Selection Filter from Object command, you can directly use properties of a chosen object as selection filter criteria. This also works from within the object manager. |
• | When filtering or searching for properties in sub-objects, the transmission structure will be considered, i.e. properties that are transmitted from instances, layers, and/or pens. |
• | When creating a new object that only has an outline (such as a line), a warning will appear if that object will be invisible due to the current pen and layer settings. |
• | The export of STL and U3D files by means of the 3D plug-in have been accelerated significantly (up to factor 10× and more). The STL import has also been sped up. All show a progress dialog and can be cancelled. |
• | For better readability, huge integer values will now usually be displayed with thousands separators. |
• | Some more dialogs have got a button for direct access to Collections and Pinboard. |
• | In the Edit Properties dialogs, changes of the line width were sometimes reset when choosing a different line pattern afterwards. |
• | Editing the Standard Attributes for libraries (the default attributes to be assigned to any new block) did not work correctly. In addition, this option is now also available within the Edit Block command. |
• | Implicit Attributes (for example ~*00~ for the block name) did not work within blocks. |
• | Comments were not displayed within groups. In addition, some comment forms could only be mouse-clicked on parts of their outlines. |
• | When creating Parts Lists with implicit attributes, the column titles are now without prefixes such as *00. |
• | The dialog for editing Multiline Parameters did work correctly for scales that were not 1:1. |
• | When changing the monitor settings (number, pixel count, resolution) while running, the program could crash during the following screen refresh. |
• | The import and export filters for DXF and DWG were revised and some small errors fixed. |
• | The creation of 3D data by means of CAD6PDF did not work correctly, only empty PDF files were created. |
• | Unlocking the application is now possible even while it is running. |
Release 2020.1.7.14 (July 14, 2020)
• | Changing the display and output options in the layer and pen dialogs yielded unexpected results if screen and output settings were set to identical. |
• | Editing extended dimensions in layout mode sometimes caused those dimensions to become invisible until the active page was switched. |
• | When using CAD6PDF, the drawing’s title, subject, and comment will now be passed on to the PDF file as title, keywords, and description. |
Release 2020.1.7.7 (July 7, 2020)
• | By means of the new Extra > Identify > Override Lock and Ignore option, you can now choose objects from locked layers / pens temporarily, as well as identify and snap objects from ignored layers / pens without having to edit the layers’ / pens’ settings. |
• | The new Hatching > Adapt to Different Outline command enables you to directly adapt an existing dynamic hatching to another outline (or, with active duplicate, to copy it into another outline). |
• | All recent commands for creating multiple copies have been moved into the Move / Copy Objects submenu. The additional Multiple Copy, Relative Values command allows to easier create multiple copies of objects with a given numerical offset. |
• | Using the Clipping > Extract Outline as Surface command, you can extract the clipping outline from any clipping object without having to resolve that clipping object. The new Clipping > Replace Outline command allows you to directly the clipping outline of an existing clipping object by another one without resolving the clipping object before. |
• | In the menu that you call my means of a right-click onto the font selection in text and font dialogs, you now also have access to a list of 10 least recently used fonts. |
• | In addition to local and global notes, you can now also create internal notes that will be part of the respective drawing file. If a drawing contains internal notes, their number will be displayed in the status window where you also access the notes window directly. |
• | All types of notebooks (internal, local, global) are now also listed in the drawing manager. |
• | In the "Insert" menu of all text dialogs, the new "Unicode character" command allows to insert a specific Unicode character into the text (in decimal or hex, directly or as control text). |
• | When creating a mapping of the Model Space using a rectangle or circle, you can now choose the position of the insertion point. |
• | Local Attributes can now be passed over multiple levels, i.e. local attributes of an instance can also be accessed from within a multi-level block structure. |
• | The "Shade" option for layers and pens can now also be active during output. |
• | All icons in the tree-view controls of all block dialogs, the drawing manager, and the 3D parts tree now scale according to the screen resolution and skin scaling. |
• | When loading a drawing that contains objects with out-of-range coordinates, the drawing manager will display a warning and allow you to either permanently select or delete those objects. |
• | Changing the active page alone does no longer mark the drawing as "changed". |
• | When editing multiple pages at once, a numeric change of the page size was not applied correctly in most cases. |
• | The file selection dialog did not always store the column widths correctly. |
• | The records "Created by" and "Modified by" will now be updated correctly for all file types. |
Release 2020.0.5.5 (May 5, 2020)
• | Snapping of points in mappings only worked in the first of all pages. |
• | The checkbox for underlining in text and font dialogs did not work correctly in most cases. |
• | When changing the "Line Opacity" in a property editing dialog for multiple objects, that change did not automatically set the check to apply this change to all objects. |
• | The "Use only elements from referenced file" option for external references now also affects line patterns. In addition, it’s active by default. |
• | Arrow parameters of the "Draw" plug-in that were stored at the pinboard or in a collection could not be selected afterwards (instead, saved colors were presented). |
Release 2020.0.4.15 (April 15, 2020)
• | The new Clipping > Edit Contents Properties command enables you to directly edit the properties of objects contained in clippings without first having to resolve the clipping. |
• | When in Layout Mode, hovering over the buttons to switch between Model Space and pages will display a preview of the Model Space or page, respectively. |
• | The Normalize command for blocks (in the dialog for Library > Block > Edit) now has an option to also reset the optimized line width display in the blocks. |
• | When snapping, block instances that were actually scaled by means of the "Apply scaling of Model Space or page" option behaved like they were not scaled. |
• | When opening a drawing containing a dynamic hatching with blocks, the program could hang if the used block no longer existed. |
Release 2020.0.3.10 (March 10, 2020)
• | The export of drawings as DXF and DWG stopped and displayed an error message if the drawing did not contain at least one block. |
Release 2020.0.3.4 (March 4, 2020)
• | When, directly after the installation, the application was first started with Administrator privileges (e.g. directly from within the Setup), the Pinboard and the local Notebook were not accessible by normal users afterwards. In addition, no respective error messages were displayed. |
• | Collection items of types "Property Search" and "Text Search" were displayed incorrectly in lists. |
Release 2020.0.3.3 (March 3, 2020)
• | For a completely new method of working with information, especially among teams, Collections and Pinboard have been introduced. They offer a way to store a variety of non-graphical information for later reference. They both can hold a virtually unlimited number of items such as:
- Colors
- Layer names and/or layer definitions
- Pen names and/or pen definitions
- Texts
- Font types
- Filters
- Text searchs
- File names
- Color gradients
- Arrow types
- Settings of plug-ins
and much more. The Pinboard is used for short-term, local, and fast storing and retrieving, while Collections are normally used for long-term, global storing and retrieving. Both can be accessed via most existing dialog windows and lists in the program. |
• | For simple, text-based notes, you can use the additional Notes window that can be kept permanently open. Store, view and manage local notes and global notes from your whole team. |
• | The "Edit Properties" dialog has been revised. It show visualizes the transmitting structure, so that you can see at all times whether a property is owned by the objects itself or transmitted from a layer or a pen. This information is also available at the cross-hairs and in other dialogs. |
• | The new "Optimized line width display for Layout mode" option replaces the previous "Display line width as zoom independent while in Model Space" option. It works much more intuitively and better adapts to all circumstances, especially in imported DXF and DWG files. |
• | The maximum number of blocks per drawing has been increased from 100,000 to 1,000,000. The memory required is allocated more dynamically, reducing the initial memory demand even more. |
• | Opening drawings with lots of blocks has been sped up enormously, deleting blocks in those drawing has been accelerated, too. |
• | The 3D plug-in now features a command to directly rotate 2D objects that were projected to a 3D perspective in that very perspective. |
• | When creating an Export Procedure, the settings for active page and output parameters will now be saved along by default. |
• | When pasting from the clipboard, existing elements can no longer be removed, only new elements will be added. |
• | When creating an object in a page that is currently not displayed, a warning will appear. |
• | A Selection Filter used to filter for standard properties with the "Search in sub-objects also" option could take an extremely long time for instances. |
• | When hatching without using a pen, the line color of the hatching object will be transmitted by default. |
• | Multi-line dimension texts did not work properly. |
• | When switching between Classic and Layout mode using the Manage > Pages - Display command, all corresponding display and output settings will now be changed accordingly, too. |
• | The "Virtual" mode for pens has been removed. When loading old files using that mode, the affected pens’ names will be supplemented with a "[v]" indicator. |
• | CAD6starter can now be installed with the "Do not allow saving" option so that it can no longer change any drawing files. It will then also open files created by trial versions. |
• | The "Zoom Areas" plug-in did not display the zoom area names correctly. |
• | When importing WMF or EMF files with Unicode text objects, those texts were cut off at about half their length. |
• | The import of DXF and DWG files with lots of blocks has been sped up significantly (by a factor of 100× or more in extreme cases). |
• | The export of files with lots of blocks into DXF and DWG has also been sped up significantly (by a factor of 100× or more in extreme cases). |
The first version of CAD6 was released in April 2003, following Malz++Kassner CAD 5 and Malz++Kassner CAD 4 which were developed since 1991. A 64-bit edition is available since 2016, full Unicode support was introduced in 2019.
