Surface / Curve > Split Along Curve plus Polyline (Trim Menu)

www.CAD6.com

This command can be used to split several existing flat object along a linear object closed by a temporarily added polyline.

The following object types are classed as "flat": circles, circle sectors, circle segments, ellipses, ellipse sectors, ellipse segments and surfaces. Ellipses and ellipse parts are converted into polygons and are therefore "only" contained as polygons in the result.

The following object types are regarded as "linear": line, circle arc, ellipse arc, and curve.

1.Choose areal objects

The objects that shall be split along the closed curve have to be chosen. Click on objects to choose them.

2.Identify linear object or temporary object

Any linear standard object or temporary object can be identified. This can be a line, a circle arc, an ellipse arc, or a curve.

If you need to split along a temporarily line or polyline, please use Temporary Objects.

3.Enter point

After identifying the curve, several points can be entered, one after another. The polyline begins at the curve's end that was clicked, runs through all the subsequently-entered points, and ends at the other end of the curve. These points can be entered by clicking the mouse at any point in the drawing for each point.

Please make sure that the outline of the surface created this way does not intersect itself or the result will be unusable. The identified curve may contain only one outline.

Once all desired points have been entered (at least one), press the right mouse button to finish the command. If the Workflow Manager is active and appears, choose Finish Command in it. You can enter up to 2,000 points. If this limit is reached during point entry, no further points can be entered.

In this command's parameters, you can choose whether the result shall be automatically simplified (see "Simplify Curve / Surface" dialog), and set the corresponding tolerances.

The result in most cases are one or two "surface" objects per chosen object, which each may be made up of more than one surface part. The resulting objects will contain the attributes of the chosen object.

This command works with all objects which have a closed outline. These are automatically converted to surfaces for the calculation. Many object types can not be converted into a surface without loss. Ellipses and ellipse parts must be converted into polylines, which invariably leads to a loss of quality. The precision of the conversion can be specified using the command Drawing Settings > Precision in the entry "Transform". The original objects (which remain unchanged if the duplicate function is active), are not influenced by this conversion. Surfaces with "holes" can also be used. There can be problems if both objects share (part) of an edge. In this case there can, in spite of calculation to 16 decimal places, be incorrect interpretations. Do not rely on the sides of overlapping objects always or never remaining unaltered. This varies from case to case.
